DIY PBX Server

As Ardent grew I quickly realized that we needed an office phone system capable of basic call functions as well as voicemail-to-email and digital fax. This allows for our operations to continue when not present in the office. Various systems are on the market at different price points and all of them seemed rather inaccessible for a small to medium business. Paying in excess of $100/mo per line wasn’t in the budget so I was determined to learn more about VOIP trunk lines and build my own PBX server.

FreePBX quickly became the obvious choice of operating system for our PBX as it has a vast support network behind it and capability to expand with paid features. Also, it supports legacy hardware as well as new cutting edge VOIP phones.

The base configuration for the server began as spare parts from an older accounting server and evolved into a more permanent state after proof of concept
